Artist Statement for Plumafolia:

As the winter snow melts away in the mountains of Colorado, leaves begin to cautiously sprout from the trees, shrubs and perennial roots.  Around this same time, the migratory birds make the long journey back to their northern breeding grounds. This work of art exemplifies the joy I find in watching the synchronized arrival of both leaves and feathers in spring.  The name Plumafolia is a poetic fusion of pluma, the Latin word for feather, and folia, meaning leaf.

I am also fascinated by the repetition of form in the natural world as leaves and feathers bear a striking resemblance to one another.  Each has a prominent central vein with branching offshoots.  Through intense observation and artistic interpretation, this piece encourages a deeper connection with nature.  It is an invitation to immerse oneself in the poetry of form and the gentle whispers of a surreal world where feathers and foliage intertwine.
